Policing: What Should We Do to Ensure Equal Justice and Fair Treatment in Our Communities?
The goal of the National Issues Forum Dialogue on Policing is to provide an opportunity to practice respectful and engaging dialogue with students and other stakeholders from across our member campuses that will also serve as a helpful entry point for the Civic Action Academy program the following day, starting with the Civic Action Academy keynote by Jason Sole, Founder of the Humanize My Hoodie Movement, 2019 recipient of a John Legend “Can’t Just Preach” award, author of the memoir From Prison to PhD, and former President of the Minneapolis NAACP.

View the dialogue guide here: Policing (Prepublication Draft).

Civic Action Lightning Talks
This session will feature 15-minute "lightning talks" by changemakers who exemplify different sections of the Social Change Wheel.

To introduce their work and illuminate their paths to civic agency, each changemaker will speak to four questions:
1. What event, person, issue, or moment propelled you into the work you do today?
2. What does civic agency mean to you? How do you take action through your work?
3. What gives you hope or keeps you going on hard days?
4. What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make a difference but doesn't know where to start?

Attendees will have the chance to ask our presenters questions during the Q&A session on Slack immediately following the lightning talks.
